How to Keep Your Computer Virus Free
Let’s look at the top 3 ways that you can keep your computer from getting infected by computer viruses.
First, a brief explanation of computer viruses. These viruses are programs that do bad things to your computer. They are also designed to get copies of themselves sent to other computers. That’s why they’re called viruses. They affect the health of your computer and spread to others.
Here are the top 3 things you can do to keep the bad guys at bay.
3. Stick to websites with safe topics. Avoiding web sites with sketchy content, like adult sites or illegal file sharing sites. Those sites are already pushing the ethics envelope. They may try to infect your computer. They might not even know they’re spreading a virus. They may have poor security and someone else is spreading a virus through their site.
2. Don’t open attachments in e-mail that you aren’t expecting. If someone sends you a file and you’re not expecting them to, don’t trust it. Talk to them and see if they sent you something and what it is. If you don’t know the person who sent the e-mail, just delete it.
E-mails that look like they are from Revenue Canada, and say, “Canada Revenue Agency has sent you an INTERAC e-Transfer…“are fake. Delete them. If you’re not sure if you should delete it, call Revenue Canada at 1-800-714-7257 and ask about it. Do NOT click on anything in that e-mail.
E-mails that look like they are from Bell that say, “Prevent discontinuation of service!” are fake. Delete them. If you’re not sure if you should delete it, call Bell at 1 800 668-6878. Do NOT click on anything in that e-mail.

1. Make sure you have a good antivirus program and that it is always up to date. You might have a paid solution like McAfee or Norton. Good show. Keep them up to date and always running.

If I could only teach you three things to do to fight computer viruses, it would be these three things. Please make sure you take the time to learn about e-mail fraud as well. You could save yourself a lot of heartache. You could even save yourself hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars too.
Until next week, take care my computer using friends!
